Hosting of 1st National Deaf Education Summit in Nigeria in 2012:

The Centre in collaboration with the Nigeria National Association of the Deaf (NNAD) successfully hostede a Deaf Education Summit which took place from the 19th to 21st September 2012 at the University of Ilorin Auditorium. The theme of the summit was “Deaf Children Right to Quality Education”.

Establishment of Audiology Unit in the Centre:

A committee on hearing impairment screening was set up by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. I. O. Oloyede under the leadership of Prof. Y. A. Fakunle the then Deputy Vice Chancellor (RTI). The committee was essentially chaired by the Director of the Centre, Prof. A. A. Adegoke. Following the report of the Committee an ultra-modern Audiology Booth was purchased by the University for the Audiology Unit.

Research collaboration with the Centre:

The Audiology Unit of the Centre collaborated with the Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology on a study on ”Occupational Noise”. The Audiology Unit carried out hearing assessment for some machine operators from Dangote Flour Mills as case study.

Production of Hand Book by the Centre:

The Centre produced the First Handbook in the year 2014, and second edition in 2017. The handbook was an attempt to provide a bird’s eye view of the history, activities, and achievements of the Centre.Production of Crest /Badge for staff and students of the Centre: An identification badge was produced by the Centre and given to every student in the Centre in 2012. This is to serve as some insignia for the students on the campus.

Creating awareness on total communication on campus:

The Centre organized and trained groups of people within the University community, particularly Muslim groups, Christian groups, and students on the use of sign language and how to relate with the Deaf.

Yearly celebration of International Day of Person living with Disability:

The Centre annually celebrates International Day of Persons living with Disability on 3rd December every year.

Yearly in-house training for interpreters in the Centre:

The Centre on regular a basis organized in-house training for interpreters. The objective of the training is to encourage the interpreters and updating their professional skills.

Purchasing of two tricycle for the interpreters in the Centre:

Early this year the University management purchased two tricycles for the interpreter to ease transportation challenges of attending students classes.
